Special Programs

Although, we support collaboration in all academic disciplines, there are some priorities for special programs:

Department of Materials Science & Engineering

The department was founded with a start-up budget of $10 million with emphasis on nanomaterials. The department is a national role model for research-oriented departments, and has a completely international atmosphere.

School of Art

The school introduces academic disciplines, which have not been popular in the county, and thus, less national experiences. The school main priorities are Architecture, Music and other performing arts, and Media.

Medicine/Hospital

The university has recently established the most advanced hospital of the country. Thus, medical collaborations for stronger development of the hospital is highly supported.

Earth Science

Geology is mainly included in other academic disciplines, but the Ethiopian universities need to specifically focus on this field due to the critical importance of natural resources. Thus, Jimma University is establishing a strong department devoted to earth sciences.

Neuroscience

In addition to the fact that neuroscience is indeed a missing area in the College of Medicine, there are are potential interests for interdisciplinary research involving other departments. Thus, Jimma University is establishing a strong Department of Neuroscience.
